Routines of Pick-up Artists and Naturals

by Matt Savage on August 13, 2007

After watching VH1’s The Pick-up Artist, I decided to go back and take a look at the Mystery Method seduction model which Mystery created in the early days of the seduction community. One of the main facets of the Mystery Method is the use of routines or canned material as a tool for attracting women. One of things that I have been moving away from, along with the rest of the seduction community, is the reliance on routine based game. Most pick-up artists are now using what is called natural game.

Natural game is supposed to be the opposite of routine based game because you are not using scripted or memorized material. However, I’m not sure that this is really the case. I’ve thought a lot about the pros and cons of each strategy and have come to the conclusion that the two really are not that different.

Lately, I’ve been praising my own efforts for using natural game but have noticed that even though I use my own stuff, they are still routines.

When I first started doing a ton of approaches last year, I was basically a fumbling mess with a few instances of witty genius. But, through my own trial and error process, I subconsciously kept those witty lines that worked and tossed out the things that didn’t work. So, as I progressed, I was able to refine my character based on the things that have worked well in the past.

Have you ever observed a natural or a very charismatic person? If you hang around these types of people long enough, you’ll begin to notice that they have certain patterns, certain phrases and certain stories that they say again and again. It’s not that these people purposely wrote out these stories to use in social context, they simply just figured out what works and what doesn’t through their own trial and error. They are not so much naturals as they are pick-up artists with their own routines.

So, what is the point of this whole thing? There is something to be learned and that is that as much as we think using routines is cheesy, it is still a necessary aspect of attraction. The difference is that the material should be your own, so that it is congruent with your own personality.

What are your thoughts on using routines?

VH1’s The Pick-Up Artist with Mystery

by Matt Savage on August 7, 2007

I just finished watching the new Pick-Up Artist reality show featuring world famous pick-up artists Mystery, Matador and J-Dog. I have to say, it is pretty good so far.

When I first heard of the show airing, I was a bit skeptical on how it would portray the seduction community. One thing I feared was that it would put the community in a more negative light, emphasizing canned openers and routines simply to pickup women. However it seems that a main part of the show will be about building a better life for the contestants rather than be just about picking up women. Mystery said it best:

“This is a lot more than learning how to pick up women; it is about building a life.”

It is nice to know that these guys understand that what counts is making a better life for themselves because ultimately, isn’t that the most attractive quality in a person?

One thing that I don’t like about the show is that people get kicked off. What I was hoping for is that no one gets kicked off and that everyone improves to the maximum of their potential. Because really the seduction community is all about supporting each other to become better men, not to ostracize those who are weak. The ones who struggle are the one’s who need the most help. It is a bit difficult to help someone when you are kicking them out of the support group.

Other than that little tid bit, I do think the show will ultimately be really good. Definitely check it out if you’re interested in seeing some of the top pick-up artist in action. Finally I’ll end with this great quote from Matador,

“There is no perfect moment, you just go in there and make it happen.”
