Who is Carrie? Sounds like she might be a little jealous. (Of course she's going to turn out to be your sister or something...)

Smoothlatinkid,

Good analogy of why scripted stuff works. It reminds me of the post I wrote a few weeks ago, Routines of Pick Up Artists and Naturals. Basically, even the most charismatic and charming natural uses routines. The difference is that the natural learns it subconsciously through trial and error where as the pick up artist learns it consciously.

I've only been to LA once and I can definitely see why it is the place to be for a lot of PUAs. It reminds of that quote from Swingers,

"It's like the opposite of inbreeding. The hottest one percent from around the world migrate to this gene pool."

Girl slaps you in the ass.

YOU: "Hey! That ain't for free. Now you owe me a drink next time you see me."

Routines are training wheels. I compare them to sheet music. You're following a structure, a progression. When you become proficient at that structure, when it is in your skin, then you are free to IMPROVISE. Then it is time for JAZZ.

It is only when you know the rules that you can break the rules.

The most common parallel in this game is stand-up comedy. Every night, those guys field-test their material in a new club--and they act like its the first time they've said it. Bill Cosby came up with 90 minutes of new material every year--and even veteran comics like Jerry Seinfeld are in awe over that colassal amount.

But it is scripted.

From that script, they can work in new material, talk on the fly. But what is essential...is LISTENING TO THE RESPONSE. CONNECTING to your audience. Not just parroting material.

You definitely have a stumbling block with closing---but it's GREAT, because you're now into a new level of the game. One step closer to getting everything you've ever wanted.

Keep going.

ps. ran into Style last night with the guys from that VH1 show. All great guys. You have to get to LA.
